Vigilance Bureau nabs ASI for taking bribe Rs 5,000
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Tuesday nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Harpal Singh (1091/Amritsar Rural), posted in police station, Chatiwind, Amritsar district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
Chandigarh May 9, 2023: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Tuesday nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Harpal Singh (1091/Amritsar Rural), posted in police station, Chatiwind, Amritsar district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above said police official has been arrested on the complaint of Wariam Singh, resident of village Udhonangal, Baba Bakala.
Giving details he added that the said complainant has approached the VB and informed that his relatives had met with an accident in a car near village Gurwali and one of them had succumbed to the injuries in the hospital at Amritsar. The complainant further alleged that the above said police official was an investigation officer of this case and has demanded Rs 5,000 as a bribe to bring the car damaged in the accident in the police station.
The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of the allegations, a VB team from Amritsar range has laid a trap and the accused police official has been arrested on the spot while taking Rs 5,000 as a bribe from the complainant and his relative Kashmir Singh in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused ASI at VB police station Amritsar range. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
