Dharamsala, April 10, 2023: Vishranti, a home for the elderly, is a dream project of Shanta Kumar and an ambitious undertaking of the Vivekananda Medical Research Project (VMRT) in Palampur near Dharamsala. This facility will prove to be a boon for senior citizens who lack family support.
Shanta Kumar, the President of Swami Vivekananda Trust and former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and former Union Minister, stated that due to the lack of job opportunities in Himachal Pradesh, doctors, engineers, and management graduates have been forced to move out of the state, leaving behind their aged parents in isolation. Many elderly couples are suffering from diseases such as diabetes, pressure, and depression, among others.
Shanta Kumar added that the number of such old people in the state is increasing, who are spending their time alone at the last turn of life. Therefore, there is a great need for such a facility at the last moment of their life.
To fulfill this need, Vivekananda Trust Palampur has constructed a house named Vishranti in the lap of snow-capped Dhauladhar in Palampur for the residence of 100 senior citizens. The home will have a medical clinic, mess, temple and kitchenettes, entertainment, library, yoga, and an open area to walk. There will be provision to accommodate 64 couples too.
Shanta Kumar said that it will be the first model center of its kind in the whole country, in which senior citizens will get all kinds of health facilities 24 hours a day.
He further stated that the construction of Vishranti is in the final stage and will start very soon. This facility will provide a comfortable and safe environment for the elderly, ensuring that they receive the care and attention they deserve.
