Vivek High School-38 Students’ Recreate Magic of Film 'Shree 420' in Musical

The students of Vivek High School VHS), Sec 38 Chandigarh delivered a captivating performance of a play depicting the iconic 1955 Bollywood movie 'Shree 420'  at the school’s auditorium. The play was held as part of  the 40th Founders Day celebrations of Vivek High School-38.

Chandigarh, October 23, 2024: The students of Vivek High School VHS), Sec 38 Chandigarh delivered a captivating performance of a play depicting the iconic 1955 Bollywood movie 'Shree 420'  at the school’s auditorium. The play was held as part of  the 40th Founders Day celebrations of Vivek High School-38. The musical was directed by Ms. Nisha Luthra, Founder and Director of the Narrators Performing Arts Society. An adaptation based on the renowned film director Late Raj Kapoor's film, 'Shree 420', the play brought to life the memorable characters and storyline of the classic film, which revolves around themes of love, moral dilemmas, and societal corruption.

 

Nisha Luthra said, “When Vivek High School’s Director Vikramjit Mamik, expressed his wish to depict the film ‘Shree 420’ on the stage as a play, I was thrilled and immediately got into action mode preparing and conceptualising the musical. Me and my team worked with the students and we were able to present a new perspective of looking at the film, through a 90-minute long musical stage play.”


The play which left the audience in awe saw the cast – the talented students of VHS -38 presenting superlative acting prowess. The stage play showcased an ensemble of cast & crew of as many as 131 students of Vivek High School-38. The set was designed by the director herself and was executed by the members of the school’s arts faculty. A potpourri of musicians invited from across India composed a beautiful symphony to recreate the eternal music of the film. The dances were choreographed by the school's dance teachers along-with members of The Narrator’s team. The costumes were done by Mr. Surinder and Mrs. Roopa Sood. The play  engaged the audience with the portrayal of Late Raj Kapoor’s iconic role of the idealistic, struggling vagabond. 

 

Nisha added, "After having directed love legends like 'Sassi Punnu', and 'Heer Ranjha', and a biopic on Maharani Jind Kaur that were received with so much appreciation and love by the audience of Chandigarh, directing a musical play based on ‘Shree 420’ the super-hit Bollywood movie from yesteryears has been a unique and fascinating journey for me.”

 

The Narrator’s team and the school’s young acting maestros put together a professional and creative stage play which impressed the audience in full measure.  The school's Director Vikramjit Mamik and Principal Renu Puri, provided the much needed support for the successful conduct of the play.
