Voting for Chandigarh Golf Club concludes peacefully
The counting of votes will be done on March 21 at 9.30 am, the result of the President will come at 10.30 and the rest will come by late evening.
Chandigarh, March 20, 2022: Voting for the new executive board of Chandigarh Golf Club concluded peacefully. 1800 members of Chandigarh Golf Club came out in large numbers to vote for the election of one President and 11 executive members on Sunday. The voting process started from 11.30 am and went on till 4.30 pm. Retired Brigadier JS Phoolka has been appointed as the returning officer by the current executive for the elections.
Former Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Congress leader and spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also reached Golf Club to vote in the elections. Many known personalities, including Malvinder Singh, brother of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, also casted their votes by participating in the voting process.
The members of the Golf Club include Punjab-Haryana ministers, military officers, IAS officers and many eminent personalities. Because of this, Punjab-Haryana, including Chandigarh, keeps an eye on the golf election. APS Johal, General Manager, Chandigarh Golf Club said that the voting took place till 4.30 pm, more than 1150 members exercised their right to vote. Each member casted 11 additional votes in addition to the President. In these selected members, Vice President, Captain, Ornary Secretary, Director Admin, Ornary Treasurer, Chairman Screening, Chairman Tournament, Chairman Bar & Catering and other members will assist the Executive in other works. At the same time, the counting of votes will be done on March 21 at 9.30 am, the result of the President will come at 10.30 and the rest will come by late evening.
Earlier in the year 2018, elections were held for the executive committee. After this, due to the corona epidemic, the executive committee has been formed unopposed. A total of 918 votes were cast in the Golf Club elections held in the year 2018. In the year 2019, the wave of Corona came, due to which the former President Sandeep Singh Sandhu was elected unopposed. In the year 2020 too, Ravibir Singh Grewal was elected unopposed due to Corona.
A total of three candidates are in the fray for the post of President, out of which two candidates are retired army officers, while one candidate is an advocate. Retired Major RS Virk (Lali), Retired Lt Col HS Chahal (Bobby) and SPS Ghai (Nippy). All the three candidates had prepared their manifesto. In this, there was mention of making the club better and increasing the facilities for the members.
