Wardens’ workshop held
A one-day Wardens workshop was organised by the Human Resource Development Centre and Dean, Students Welfare Office sponsored by the RUSA 2.0 grant.
Chandigarh, April 20, 2022: A one-day Wardens workshop was organised by the Human Resource Development Centre and Dean, Students Welfare Office sponsored by the RUSA 2.0 grant. The theme was ‘Office Administration & Financial Procedures’
17 Wardens of the Panjab University hostels attended the workshop. Sessions were conducted on the themes of office administration, financial procedures and challenges of being a hostel warden. The workshop provided a platform for the wardens to bring forth their issues, discuss them with peers and experts and reach a solution. Dr. Nidhi Gautam, Warden, Hostel No-5 Coordinated the workshop.
The Vice-Chancellor Panjab University Prof. Raj Kumar while inaugurating the workshop encouraged the wardens to not work in silos but collaborate with other wardens and other departments to bring up the synergy among themselves. He said that the communication gap should be bridged. Wardens should be aware of the residents of the hostels and should have access to chairpersons, parents and other university functionaries. The Vice- Chancellor highlighted that the hostels should not be islands and wardens should make sure that the residents spend a memorable time in the hostel and develop a deep bond with the alma mater.
The Registrar and Finance & Development Officer, Panjab University, CA Vikram Nayyar and Prof. Meena Sharma, DSW (Woman) attended the inaugural session.
The participants agreed that such opportunities help them to get deeper insights into the assignment of a hostel warden.
A session on financial procedures including information on budgeting, budget heads GEM portal purchases by the Registrar Mr. Vikram Nayyar, helped the wardens get an understanding of the technical aspects of finances.
Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, former DSW (Woman) spoke on the theme of Dealing with day to day problems of hostel residents & staff and one session with the Executive Engineer. Mr. Rai on official procedures of construction and public health office were also held.
