Water Sports in Pong Dam to Boost Tourism in Kangra: Deputy Commissioner

Chairing a meeting on Thursday to review the status of water sports, Bairwa instructed officials to finalize the formalities required for operating Shikara rides, cruises, and other activities.
Dharamshala, January 3, 2025: Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa has directed the Tourism Department to expedite efforts to introduce water sports activities in Pong Dam to promote tourism in the region. Chairing a meeting on Thursday to review the status of water sports, Bairwa instructed officials to finalize the formalities required for operating Shikara rides, cruises, and other activities.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the formation of a dedicated society by the district administration to promote and manage water sports and related activities in Kangra. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the administration and local residents to ensure the sustainable development of these initiatives.
“The state government is committed to developing Kangra district as the tourism capital of Himachal Pradesh,” said Bairwa. He added that Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has stressed the optimal utilization of existing infrastructure in the Pong Dam area to bolster tourism. This initiative aims to involve local communities in tourism operations, creating self-employment opportunities for the region's youth.
Key officials present at the meeting included ADC Vinay Kumar, ADM Dr. Harish Gajju, District Tourism Officer Vinay Dhiman, and CMO Dr. Rajesh Guleri, among others.
