Hyderabad, September 11, 2024: CII Telangana organized the Defence & Space Conclave with the theme Exploring Newer Capabilities for National Security on Wednesday at Hyderabad.
 
The Conclave was addressed by key industry leaders from Defence sector along with the senior professionals from the Government.
 
Sai D Prasad, Chairman, CII Telangana & Executive Director, Bharat Biotech International Limited, in his Welcome Address highlighted about the India's growing defence and aerospace sectors, he stated, “The private sector is increasingly participating in the design and manufacturing of space-based systems for defence needs, enhancing both operational capabilities and the economy.” He emphasized Telangana's pivotal role, saying, “The state today boasts of many entities contributing to national and global requirements in both industries.” The event underscores India's push toward self-reliance and progressive policy reforms in these sectors.
 
Vamsi Vikas, Co-Convenor, CII Telangana Defence & Aerospace Panel and Managing Director, Raghu Vamsi Machine Tools P Ltd, emphasized on the promising growth across industries. “India is one of the strongest military forces globally, with a defence budget of $74.7 billion for 2024,” Vikas noted, highlighting India's strategic importance. He praised the significant strides in innovation, especially the support for MSMEs and startups. “Telangana is a hub for startups, defence production, and research, bridging technology gaps,” he added. The conclave serves as a platform for enhancing capabilities and fostering industry collaborations to strengthen national security.
 
Major General Harsh Chhibber, VSM, Commandant, College of Defence Management, provided an in-depth analysis of the current geopolitical landscape, emphasizing the role of self-reliance in defence. “National security is a collective responsibility. The emerging anarchy in global affairs demands India re-evaluate its security strategies,” he said. He highlighted how India’s non-alignment and partnerships provide opportunities, but also bring significant risks, requiring the nation to strengthen its defence capabilities through indigenization and innovation.

Dr S K Jha, Chairman & Managing Director Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd highlighted India's rapidly growing defence production and export capabilities. "Last year, India achieved a remarkable 20% growth in defence production, reaching ₹1.27 lakh crore, with exports to over 30 countries. Hyderabad's contribution is vital, establishing it as a key defence and aerospace hub," said Dr. Jha. He also emphasized the region's excellent industrial ecosystem and future growth prospects in materials and technology innovation.
 
Dr Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary Department of Industries & Commerce, ITE&C Government of Telangana highlighted the state's strategic role in defence and aerospace, emphasizing the region's six-decade legacy. He announced the launch of a dedicated MSME policy aimed at boosting technology upgrades and manufacturing. "We will possibly become the first state to support companies to improve their technology," he stated. Dr Ranjan also stressed the importance of infrastructure, talent, and innovation, adding that Telangana aims to foster a robust ecosystem with private sector collaboration.
 
The summit focused on critical discussions aimed at strengthening national security through advancements in the defence and space sectors. Key topics included enhancing defence capabilities, fostering innovations and start-ups for national security, and shaping the future of Indian manufacturing services to meet global aerospace and defence demands. The event also highlighted the Telangana State Government’s initiatives and strategic plans to further boost the aerospace and defence sector, emphasizing its role in driving technological growth and economic development in the region.
