Sangrur/Chandigarh: Reacting to the derogatory remarks made by Khalistani supporter Gurpatwant Pannun about Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Cabinet Minister Barinder Goyal stated that Baba Saheb does not belong to any one religion or caste; the entire nation reveres him. He added that Pannun knows nothing about Ambedkar's contributions to the country, which is why he is making such vile comments.
Addressing the media in Sangrur alongside AAP MLAs Narinder Kaur Bharaj and Kulwant Singh Pandori, Barinder Goyal said that the Constitution written by Dr. Ambedkar is what unites the entire country today. He highlighted how the Indian Constitution is celebrated globally. Making such disgraceful remarks against such a great personality is extremely unfortunate.
Goyal further said that although Gurpatwant Singh Pannun associates himself with the Sikh religion, he has no understanding of it. He reminded that the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, called Dalits “Rangrete Guru Ke Bete”.
He added that Pannun's livelihood depends on making such statements, which is why he frequently gives provocative statements aimed at dividing society and spreading hatred.
Challenging Pannun, Goyal said that while he sits in the United States and constantly speaks ill, he should show courage by coming here and making such statements. “Then he will see what people think of him,” he added.
Goyal emphasized that the AAP government has given the highest respect to Dr. Ambedkar. He pointed out that today, every government office in Punjab displays photographs of Dr. Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
He concluded by declaring that, “We won't be intimidated by such empty threats. On April 14, all Aam Aadmi Party workers and leaders will celebrate Baba Saheb’s birth anniversary with great enthusiasm and protect his statues.”
