Web Panel Discussion organised by Department of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh
Chandigarh, February 16, 2022: A web Panel Discussion was organised by the Department of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Various speakers from across fields, ranging from Law, Literature and politics shared their opinions. Dr.Priyatosh Sharma, Chairperson welcomed all the speakers and participants. He initiated the session by highlighting the endeavors of Department to connect academics with ground level realities.
Prof Rajiv Lochan gave inaugural speech and said that there is need to connect history not simply as dead past but a living past in present at more vibrant level.
Principal Vinay Sharma talked about his experience in Guru Ravidas deras which have adopted certain villages to ensure education among all children. He also highlighted how Guru Ravidas teachings acted both as revolutionary and harmony as per the situation demands.
Advocate Devinder Singh talked how indian constitution makers were aware about Indian philosophic traditions and imbibed in indian vision of a welfare state. He elaborated how Begampura envisaged every ideal of fundemental rights and duties in one composition.
Mrs Sweety Tomar submitted how still one sees discrimination on the ground and how Guru Ravidas ji teachings still needs to be expanded on the wider canvas. Guru Ravidas ji teachings can harmonise the conflicts and needs to incorporated in syllabus and academics.
Sh. Sandeep Sikri, Fellow Panjab University, talked about how Guru Ravidas talked about action and not merely rituals. He said that how being humble one can achieve height and sainthood.
This Panel Discussion was attended by teachers accross Punjab , Haryana and Chandigarh.
Dr.Ashish Kumar offered the vote of thanks to all the panelists and participants.

Chandigarh, February 16, 2022: On the occasion of Sant Ravi Dass Jayanti, the DSW, Associate DSW, Wardens, students and employees of Boys Hostel Number 6 celebrated the occasion. It was chaired by Prof. Jagtar Singh, DSW and Prof. Ashok Kumar, Associate DSW and Dr. Amit Chauhan, Warden of BH6. The event was started by lighting of the candle and performing the arti in front of St. Ravi Dass ji. Students were seen in full enthusiasm for arti. The function was accompanied with some kind words from our chief guest and after the completion of arti students were presented with evening snacks and accompaniments. The event was a great grand success.

Chandigarh, February 16, 2022: Two-week Online Refresher Course organized by HRDC, Panjab University, Chandigarh for College and University
teachers in the discipline of "Commerce, Management and Economics" concluded on 14.02.2022.The Director HRDC and Dean University Instructions PU Chandigarh Prof SK Tomar welcomed the Chief guest of the valedictory session Prof BP Sharma, an eminent economist and Former Vice Chancellor Gautam Budha University Noida and highlighted the need for updating knowledge with recent developments in the subject and significance of interdisciplinary approach.The course was attended by 26College and University teachers from eight states and UTs like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh,West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka,Chandigarh who appreciated the planning and conduct of the Course by the coordinators Prof. Harsh Gandhar and Prof Geeta Bansal especially dissemination of new developments and contemporary research in Commerce, Management and Economics , Covid -19 impact, hands on training sessions, updating of skills, interactive sessions and collaborative learning, . Eminent resource persons from academics and corporate world eg Indian Institute of Management Roorkee and Allahabad, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy New Delhi, University of Jammu GlaxoSmithKline USA etc were the highlights of the course. The Deputy director Jayanti Dutta urged the participants to physically visit PU campus and enjoy the ambience and serenity.

Chandigarh, February 16, 2022: The Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University Chandigarh celebrated the 645th Birth anniversary of Sri Guru Ravidass ji by organizing a webinar on “Biotechnology and Mankind” on 16.02.2022 at 2:30pm. Dr Rakshak Kumar Acharya, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IHBT, Palampur was the chief guest and keynote speaker of the event. Dr Kashmir Singh, Chairperson of the department welcomed the chief guest and the audience. Mr Pulkit Sharma highlighted the life and teachings of Guru Ravidass ji.
Dr Rakshak gave talk on Scientifically validated technologies as a tool for the sustainable livelihood generation in Himalayan rural area” where he mentioned various technologies developed by his group at CSIR-IHBT and how these are helping in improving the livelihood and living standards of people living in upper Himalayan regions. He described about the development of high Vit D containing shitake mushroom and selling the technology to various MSMEs. The clusters developed by him are source of earning for hundreds of people. In another research, they have developed human consortia helpful in degrading the human organic waste, this revolutionizing technology has changed the life of people living in snow covered mountain regions and this has also been transferred to DRDO and Indian army for use in troop camps. In the end Ms. Janvi Sandhu and Mr Amandeep Singh thanked the chief guest and audience.
