Webinar on account of 36th National Science Day
Chandigarh, February 28, 2022: Department of Biotechnology in collaboration with DST- Centre for Policy Research, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a webinar on account of the 36th National Science Day on 28th February 2022. The event began with the opening remarks by Dr. Kashmir Singh, Chairperson, Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University and Co-ordinator, DST-Centre for Policy Research, Panjab University, welcomed the guests.
Dr.Sudhir Kumar, Dean Research, inaugurated the function and elucidated the role ofintegrating self-introspection with sciences as a necessary propagation of science and humanity. He further emphasized the relevance of this year’s National Science Day theme on “Integrated Approach in S&T for sustainable future” to not just the scientificcommunity but also the entire society as a whole. Then, Dr. Mansimran Khokhar gladly invited and introduced the very speaker to the audience – Dr. Vibha Ahuja, Chief General Manager, BCIL, New Delhi. Her talk was titled “Biotechnology Led Enterprises: Prospects and Opportunities.” Through her long and distinguished career experience, Dr. Ahuja exposed the students to the paradigms of Entrepreneurship and the face of the Indian Biotechnology Industry on a global scale. With several real-life case studies, she motivated the students to venture into their startups and created awareness about several nationally recognised supporting and funding agencies. Her talk ended with positive feedback from the audience.
For the second part of the webinar, Dr. Dhiraj Vyas, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, introduced the students to a very novel and emerging field of “The Language of Plants”, whereby he described various chemistries playing key roles in plant communication and their ecological implications. His engaging talk captured the young minds and prompted them to dig deeper into this novel area. Each of the two talks was followed by a couple of questions from the audience which were
pleasantly answered by the speakers. Finally, the event hosts ended the event on a great note with an elaboratively beautiful vote of thanks.
