Chandigarh: Today a Web Lecture on the topic ‘Basic Concepts of Indian Culture’ was organized by Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh. The main speaker was Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Vice Chairman Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. The Chief Guest was Prof. Raj Kumar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University Chandigarh. Web lecture was started with welcome address given by Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kaang, Academic In-Charge Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies. In his opening remarks, Prof. Gupta stressed upon instant need of Global Culture and relevance of Indian Culture in solving the Global Problems. He said that Culture is a complex phenomena and culture is very essential for human development. Indian Culture is synthesing in its nature. Many religions, culture, races, traditions etc. have been absorbed in the Indian culture; that’s why Indian constitution called Indian culture a composite culture. Further, He explained various concepts like Man, God, Emancipation, Universal Valuesin the context of Indian culture as well as Semetic Traditions. He stressed upon value and importance of Indian culture and urged to rejoin and reunite with the Indian culture, because culture gives an identity to a person. He urged that Indian Culture is continuing and everlasting in nature due to it’s pluralistic liberal approach, introspective methodology, knowledge oriented discourse and synthesing character. He linked Indian culture with Sikh tradition of Knowledge, Service and Sacrifice. Dr. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar PU Chandigarh also shared his views on Indian culture, Sikhism and Sikh tradition. In the end of web lecture, Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kanng gave a vote of thanks to all dignitaries and audience.
