Chandigarh, June 29, 2022: Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized Webinar on “Good Lab Practices in Specific Learning Disability” on 29th June 2022, under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
This Webinar was organized under the patronage of our honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar and chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Navleen Kaur, Chairperson, Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The webinar was organised by the department faculty comprising Dr. Saifur Rehman, Mr. Nitin Raj and Mr. Taukir Alam. The webinar started at 11.00 am with the welcome note by Chairperson.
The resource person Dr. Krishan Kumar Soni, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, PGIMER, Chandigarh was introduced by Dr. Saifur Rahman. In his presentation Dr. Soni highlighted different aspects of practices of Specific Learning Disability which are conducted in schools, clinics, rehabilitation centers with the help of various types of educational and psychological tools. Respected speaker rigorously stressed on Child Mental Health Issues which is directly related to overall development of the child. He also discussed that the cognitive, behavioral, communication, and academic parts of the person/students should be assessed and monitored in the schools by teachers, special educators and other professionals on regular basis so that the learners could manifest their potential on the subjects and other curricular activities. He also focused on different types of Specific Learning Disability and related disabilities. Many types of screening and assessment tools were introduced. He discussed the procedures of evaluation which can be conducted by school professionals with their best practices in the schools. By understanding and getting training of these practices in lab/school, children with Specific Learning Disability will be capable to orient themselves appropriately and enhance their potential of learning very comfortably.
Around 100 participants attended this webinar which included rehabilitation professionals, research scholars, students, parents, and other stakeholders. The skills learnt in this webinar can be utilized by them to enhance the learning potential of the children with Specific Learning Disability. The webinar ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Md. Saifur Rahman.
