Jalandhar, February 19, 2024: The PG Department of Commerce and Management of PCM S.D.College for Women, Jalandhar organized a Webinar on the 'Importance of Intellectual Property, Trademarks, and Brand in Today's Tech-Savvy Environment'. The resource person of the webinar was Counsel Shivakumara R., Intellectual Property, John Deere India, Pune. The objective of this event was to provide essentials of Intellectual Property, Trademarks, and Brand, making the students more aware of the importance of these intangible assets in the present times. The webinar was conducted via Google Meet.
Shikha Puri, Dean, Commerce Club, introduced the eminent speaker and welcomed him. The honorable speaker explained the concept and meaning of Intellectual Property, Trademarks, and Brand. He also mentioned that Intellectual property is generally characterized as non-physical property that is the product of original thought. Furthermore, he explained various intellectual property rights, IPRS, and various provisions of law attached to it. He cited various examples of product names, product packaging, slogans, designs, bottle designs, logos, trade dress, any and all copyrights and copyrightable works, any and all product formulas, recipes, formulations, and blends, artistic works, etc. A complete understanding of the difference between these Intellectual Property, Trademarks, and Brand was given. Advantages of IPR and challenges involved were also vividly discussed. How technology is helping in creating awareness about IPRs, at the same time, technology is also providing easy access for plagiarism and infringement, etc., was a cause for concern.
Valid questions were raised by the students, and they were satisfactorily answered by the resource person. Mrs. Alka Sharma, Head, PG Department of Commerce & Management, took the opportunity to thank the honorable resource person. A total of 92 participants attended this webinar, including students and faculty members of the Commerce and Management department. It was a knowledgeable session that provided guidance and deep insights about Intellectual Property, Trademarks, and Brand in Today's Tech-Savvy Environment.
