Chandigarh September 18, 2024: A webinar was organized on the topic "Ensuring Inclusive Education and Sustainable Environment for Children with Learning Disability" by the Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University today. The resource person for the webinar was Prof. Veera Gupta from the Department of Teacher Training and Non- Formal Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
Prof. Gupta highlighted the value of inclusion for children with special needs stating that it is a cause of concern that inclusion for these children is still a challenge. She gave very practical insights on the characteristics of children with Specific Learning Disabilities (SDL). Prof. Veera emphasised that it is very important to understand the characteristics and needs of SLDs in order to create a conducive environment for these children as the major objective of inclusive education is to adjust the environment according to the children and not expect children to adjust to the school environment.
The resource person's presentation was very interactive and involved everyone. Earlier, Dr. Md. Saifur Rehman, the Chairperson of the Department in the welcome address focused on the accommodation, modification, conceptual framework, and some salient features of SLD at different stages.
