Webinar on Indian Constitution at PU

Chandigarh, November 27, 2021: Kasturba Hall ,Girls Hostel no. 4, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Hall ,Boys Hostel no. 4 and Centre of Systems Biology and Bioinformatics, Panjab University jointly hosted a webinar "Indian Constitution: Dynamism & Resilience" to celebrate the Constitution Day. 
The webinar commenced with introducing the theme of the webinar by Dr. Tammanna R. Sahrawat, Chairperson, Centre for Systems Biology and Bioinformatics and Warden GH-4. She shared with the participants that the inception of Constitution Day was the brainchild of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narender Modi who in 2015, as a tribute to the founding father of the Indian Constitution Baba Sahib Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 125th Birth Anniversary, announced that 26 November will be celebrated as Constitution Day, other than the National Law Day. 
Dr. Tammanna introduced the distinguished speaker of the evening, Shri Satya Pal Jain, Sr. Advocate, Former MP (Lok Sabha) and Addl. Solicitor General of India. 
Sh. Jain shared his words of wisdom on the importance and impeccability of our Constitution. He elaborated the 11 fundamental duties, quoting that "where there is a right there is duty" and illustrated several examples such as although we have a right to speak but one cannot speak to hurt others and this is where our duty comes into play. He further said that it’s the need of the hour to encourage imparting education in an individual’s mother tongue. He also emphasized the need to declare Hindi as our national language.
This was followed by panel discussion moderated by Dr. Bharat from UILS and Warden BH-4, co-convenor of the webinar, who welcomed and introduced the panellists.
The panel discussion began with Ms. Sudipa Kaur, PCS(J) CJ/JMIC, Taluka Court, Kharar where she threw light on the long route that the Indian constitution has travelled to reach to a point where judiciary is the first guiding committee of the Constitution. She mentioned that honestly, loyalty and integrity are the fundamental grounds of any institution including judiciary. 
Dr. Shalini Sharma, Advocate Punjab & Haryana High Court laid emphasis on the child rights under the Indian Constitution.
Prof. Devinder Singh, Chairperson, Department of Laws and SVC, PU a constitutional expert, shared his experiences of teaching Constitution over the years and that it’s a living document with scope of amendments as per the changing needs of time. 
At the end of the panel discussion, questions were taken from the audience followed by vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Tammanna who ended the webcast on the note that the Constitution embodies the aspirations and faith of the citizens.
