Webinar on role of women in environmental sustainability
Speaker elaborated about Stri Mukti Sangharash, Shethkari Mahilla Aghadi movements of Maharashtra state
Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organized a webinar on role of women in environmental sustainability. The key spokesperson was Dr. Renu Bhardwaj, Director Research, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
The talk was organized under the ageis of Grievances Redressal Cell of the college. Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, Convener, Grievances Redressal Cell introduced the speaker Dr. Renu Bhardwaj, who is a renowned botanist and environmentalist with an excellent research record.
Dr. G S Samra, Principal of the college gave his opening remarks and stressed upon the importance of environmental stability especially under the changing climate and COVID-19 situation. Dr. Renu Bhardwaj emphasized that women have been closely associated with nature since ancient times and have been involved in sustaining the social as well as natural environment around us. She said that women have been contributing extensively in agriculture and still do so in many communities especially in the hill regions.
She elaborated about Stri Mukti Sangharash, Shethkari Mahilla Aghadi movements of Maharashtra state. Women have played a key role in rain water harvesting and wet land conservation projects. She cited and discussed the role of world renowned women environmentalist like Rachael Carson, Mariah Cherkasova, Bella Abjug, Vanadana Shiva among others and encouraged the participants to play a proactive role in maintaining the environment within their societies. A vote of thanks to the speaker and the participants was proposed by Prof. Jasreen Kaur Dean Academic Affairs.
