Chandigarh, August 30, 2012: Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare today visited the hospital named “Amar Hospital Super Specialty and Heart Centre” at Mohali at 11.33 a.m. and got an OPD Slip made by the name “Nafiza”, UHID 3844 and paid Rs.250 for OPD Slip. I complained of pain abdomen and asked for emergency care.

Dr. Sameer Kaushal who is posted at Community Health Centre, Village Kohrian in District Sangrur as a Government Doctor examined her wherein the press (electronic and print media) caught him on camera examining her lying on the emergency bed.

On the main board displayed at the entry of the hospital the name of “Dr. Sameer Kaushal” was displayed at the top of the list as Chief Medical Officer with official timings displayed as Monday to Saturday 10.00 A.M to 2.00 P.M and  6.00 PM to 8.00 PM.

Addressing a press conference, Dr. Sidhu said, “It is a shame that he is practicing openly privately inspite of being in government service”, adding the doctor concerned visited his place of posting once in one or two months and put his attendance on the register inspite of dots of absence having put by SMO or Civil Surgeon.

She told that she had received a complaint from Punjab Panchayats President residing in the same area that this doctor was never present on duty but still fill the attendance register, had never seen a patient and had never participated in any Health National Programme.

Further, she told that she had requested that Civil Surgeon, Sangrur, Dr. Bali on August 6 this year to hold a detailed inquiry about him, but because had not received a reply till date, decided to check the Centre herself.

She said she would request the Minister Health and Deputy Chief Minister to immediately suspend the doctor just to send a message to the remaining few government doctors who were indulging in malpractices to stop them immediately and not bring a bad name to the most respected profession where government doctors were working around the clock to provide services at par with private sector under the leadership of our magnanimous Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
