Who will be “mukkader ka sikander” in Punjab assembly elections?
There is possibility that the issue of security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Ferozepur will become a major issue in these elections, particularly in the State of Punjab
The elections have been announced in five states namely Goa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Manipur. As per the election schedule announced by Election Commission of India, the polling in Punjab will be held on February 14, 2022. With the announcement of the election dates, model code of conduct has also come into force with immediate effect. Now, it’s time for the political parties to announce their poll manifestoes so that electorates may come to know that what they are going to implement if come to the power. The electorates are eyeing on the poll manifestoes to know the points that are to be included in the poll manifestoes. Political parties may include issues such as unity and integrity of the nation, national security, brotherhood, communal harmony and develop in their poll manifestoes. The issues in the poll manifestoes may differ from state to state considering the local issues. But, the issues such as national security, unity and integrity and brotherhood may be common. There is possibility that the issue of security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Ferozepur will become a major issue in these elections, particularly in the State of Punjab. Rather, this issue has already become a hot debate in Punjab and other states. The Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is issuing his repeated statements to clear his side on the issue. Many other developments are likely to take up in the near future. Thus, there is every possibility that all other issues will remain behind and the issue of national security will become a major poll issue in Punjab assembly elections. Channi has even tried to take shield by giving interviews to various television channels stating that there was no threat perception to the PM or any security breach at his government level.
There is possibility that Punjab will witness a multi-corner contests on most of the assembly seats. But, time will reveal who will be the “mukkader ka sikander”. As of now, the tough fight is going on among the leaders of all political parties to get the tickets of their respective parties. The whole picture is likely to be cleared soon.
