Ferozepur, June 21, 2024: The Ferozepur police claimed to have solved the mystery behind the blind murder case which took place in Zira few days ago. 

Saumya Mishra SSP said that on June 11, the police had received a complaint from one Sukhdip Kaur resident of Zira that her husband Manjit Singh had gone to Mata Vaishno Devi to pay obeisance on June 6. “Sukhdip said that she had been in touch with her husband with the help of mobile but on June 10, Manjit’s phone went switch off and after that she did not receive any call from him and she has no clue about his whereabouts”, said SSP. 

The SSP said that following the complaint, the police started the investigation during which the needle of suspicion tilted towards Sukhdeep only. “During the investigation, Gursewak Singh, the brother of Manjit also informed the police that Sukhdeep had illicit relations with one Harjinder Singh, resident of Gandiwind in Tarn Taran district and Harjinder had kidnapped Manjit while he was roaming with walking with Sukhdeep near Kachha Mansurdeva road in Zira on June 6”, said SSP. 

The SSP said that on the basis of the statement of Gursewak, the police lodged an FIR against the accused Sukhdeep and Harjinder. The SSP said that during the investigation, it came to fore that other accused including Gurleen Singh alias Mota resident of Warring village, Arshdepe Singh resident of Sarhali village, Jagjivan Singh alias Jaggu resident of Gandiwind village and Hardeep Singh alias Happy resident of Gandiwind village (All in Tarn Taran district) were also involved in this case. 

“The raids were conducted and the police nabbed the accused Harjinder, Gurleen, Arshdeep. During the questioning, the accused accepted that they had kidnapped Manjit and had killed him by chocking him to death with help of a scarf on the intervening night of June 6-7 and had thrown his body in Beas river near village Kamboj dhai in Tarn Taran district. “The accused had even tied up the body with a stone and  barbed wire so that it does not float in the river water”, said SSP. 

“While two accused Jagjivan and Hardip are yet to be arrested. The police have launched a manhunt to nab them. The police are also searching for the body in the river”, said SSP. 

During the investigation, the main accused Harjinder revealed that he had been running a drug de-addiction centre in 2022. “The accused said that one of the inmates of the de-addiction centre run by him had allegedly committed suicide and he had thrown his body also in the river and had informed his parents that he had gone missing. The police is also investigating this matter”, said SSP Mishra.
