Winter cloth donation drive by RAC Chandigarh Shivalik
Rotaract Club Chandigarh Shivalik participated in a winter cloth donation drive
Chandigarh: Rotaract Club Chandigarh Shivalik participated in a district-wide winter cloth donation drive to help the underprivileged prepare for the harsh winter. Rotaractors spread awareness about the event on their social media handles and tagged 3 of their non-Rotaractors friends to participate as well. Three diligent Rotaractors volunteered to act as pseudo drop off points around the city to make it convenient for people to donate winter clothes. This led to a significant turnout, with a total of 250 clothing items and 8 pairs of shoes being donated by the 24th December 2020. A team of Rotaractors, escorted by two policemen, proceeded to donate the collected items near PGI, Chandigarh in the slum area.
Rtr. Stuti Sharma, Club President, said, “Poverty has been a major deterrent to our nation’s progress. Therefore, we feel that it is our duty as Rotaractors and fellow humans to help the underprivileged by any means possible. I hope our efforts contribute to keeping people warm and safe through the frigid winter.”
Urging everyone to take part in the event, Rtr. Tanushree Raina, Event Chairperson, stated that "This year, Chandigarh is experiencing one of the coldest winters it has ever seen. Without proper clothing and protection against the weather, it becomes extremely difficult for people to stay safe. Donation is not something that needs to be done in groups. I urge people to value others’ lives as much as they value theirs and donate winter clothes as a group or individually if possible. ".
The project sparked a light of humanity during these tough times and helped the Rotaractors spread warmth in the community, both literally and metaphorically. We hope this initiative is carried forward by others who hear or read about it and we can help as many people keep safe during the winter.
