Phagwara, December 18, 2024: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday campaigned in Phagwara in support of Aam Aadmi Party candidates for the municipal corporation elections. He held a massive roadshow with party leaders and workers and urged people to elect AAP candidates.
The roadshow witnessed the presence of AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, Working President Sharry Kalsi, MP Rajkumar Chabbewal, MLA Ishant Chabbewal, Dr Sunny Ahluwalia, MC candidates, a large number of party workers, and local residents. People welcomed Mann by showering flowers and raised slogans in his support. The Chief Minister thanked the public for their love and support and urged them to actively participate in the electoral process.
While addressing the people, Chief Minister Mann outlined his development plan for Phagwara and promised to introduce electric buses with modern charging stations and improve the city's sewerage system.
Mann said that local governance impacts the lives of city residents. Hence, better candidates should be chosen who will work for you and address local issues. He urged people to ensure that the mayor of the municipal corporation is also from the Aam Aadmi Party, as the state government is theirs too. "If the mayor is also from AAP, the city's development will double in speed, and our morale will soar," he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the work done by his government in the last two and a half years, stating that they provided 50,000 government jobs to youth purely on merit without any bribes or recommendations. He claimed his government curbed corruption and took strict action against the corrupt.
Mann added that the AAP government has done remarkable work in the health and education sectors. Over the past two and a half years, they have opened Mohalla Clinics across Punjab and revamped government hospitals. Simultaneously, government schools are being transformed into world-class institutions, equipped with all facilities and improved infrastructure.
Today, 90 percent of Punjab's households are getting free electricity. Farmers are also getting sufficient electricity during the day for agriculture without any cuts. Mann said all of this was possible because their intentions were clear. "Those in previous governments were corrupt, which is why their work never succeeded," he remarked.
Criticizing the Congress, Mann said, "They start fighting amongst themselves or get entangled with us as soon as they wake up in the morning. They cannot do any good for the people of Punjab. We think for you. We work for you." He also targeted Sukhbir Badal, stating that "God has punished him for his sins, and now he is entirely out of Punjab's politics."
Taking a dig at previous governments, Mann said that Phagwara once had a famous football club and a vibrant sports environment. However, the previous governments destroyed everything. "After coming to power, we started promoting sports again in Punjab and implemented several initiatives to attract youth towards sports," he said.
CM Mann urged the people of Jalandhar to rise above caste and religion on December 21 and vote for the future of their children and the development of their city. He said, "This time, vote for you and your children's future. The broom is not just a button on the voting machine but a symbol of people's hopes and a better future for their children."
He also mentioned that the Aam Aadmi Party is a party of ordinary people. "We give young people from common households a chance to enter politics." Highlighting this, Mann spoke about giving a councilor ticket to an e-rickshaw driver in Phagwara, stating that it is only possible in the Aam Aadmi Party.
