Women Achievers honoured at Nauni

Nauni, March 8, 2022: International Women’s Day was celebrated at the Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni on Tuesday. The event was organised by the Women Grievance  Redressal cell (WGRC) of the university. Dr. Parvinder Kaushal, Vice-Chancellor of the university was the chief guest on the occasion while Masooma Singha, Principal of MRA DAV School Solan was the Guest of Honour. 

Dr. Sunita Chandel, Presiding officer of WGRC welcomed the participants and explained the relevance of Women's Day. She told that the theme for this year’s International Women Day was 'Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow'.Guest of Honour Masooma Singha gave a special talk on the topic ‘Gender Equality in society’. In her talk, she emphasized celebrating women's day everyday and not restricting it to a particular day. She also spoke about the role of education in realizing the goal of gender equality.

Dr. Parvinder Kaushal lauded the role of women and spoke about their growing achievements in every field. He said that the university was a perfect example of the progress made by women. He said over 60 percent of the students of the university were girls and this figure was increasing each year.  He urged students to become gender champions and play an active role in providing equal opportunities to everyone so that the country can realize its full potential.

The university honoured women achievers-Masooma Singha, Lady constable Anupama, Bimla Devi and Sarita Devi for excelling in different fields on the occasion. An e-magazine on gender equality under the Gender Champion Programme of the UGC was also launched. The Gender Champion Programme was started in the university in 2020. Gender Champions are envisaged as responsible leaders who will facilitate an enabling environment within their academic institutions where women are treated with dignity and respect. This e-magazine showcases a collection of the works of students who through their artistic work in poems, plays, essays, paintings etc advocate gender equality and awareness.  The Chief Guest gave away prizes to 39 students who won prizes under various competitions organized under this programme.

The talent of the university students was on display during the cultural programme organized on the occasion. The participants gave the message of women empowerment and gender equality through their songs, poems and skit.
