Women should have right for self determination and decision making: Punjab Istri Sabha
Ludhiana, October 4, 2018: Exemplary punishment to those committing crime against women is essential to deter such elements and to safeguard the dignity of women and build society free of violence. Women have played glorious role in the history right from the ancient times when they discovered agriculture to the participation in the freedom movement of the country. After Independence they have been equal partners in building modern India. Carrying this message a Jatha of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) reached Ludhiana today. A function was organized in their honor and raise to awareness about their rights for security, education, livelihood, jobs and self-determination and decision making by the Punjab Istri Sabha Ludhiana in Ward No.94, Near Jalandhar Bye Pass. Large number of women from different parts of district and from different spheres participated in the event. Speaking on the occasion, Mrs.Rajinder Kaur, Secretary, Istri Sabha Punjab said that in the recent past there have been rising incidents of violence against women. This has to be curbed by law and social reforms. With the changes in the economic policies women are the worst sufferers as they are first to face the adverse impact of jobless growth. Women bear the worst impact of violence in the society. The events like honor killings and issues like love jehad are a representation of feudal patriarchal values. These deny the women their right to self determination and decision making. Whole society has to come forward against such heinous crimes. “We demand security at work place to be ensured, the night shifts for women should be removed, equal pay for equal work, end to female foeticide, 33% reservation in the Parliament and Assemblies”, she said. Function was organized under the presidium of Jit Kumari – Secretary Punjab Istri Sabha Ludhiana, Narinder Pal Kuar and Kulwant Kaur.
