Women voters outnumber men in SBS Nagar
73.79 Percent women exercise their right to franchise while men vote 67.9 percent
Nawanshahr, February 21, 2022: In Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, more women have voted than their men counterparts on Sunday when elections for three legislative constituencies including Banga, Nawanshahr and Balachaur completed smoothly and peacefully.
As per the details, a total of 177669 women voters exercised their right to franchise whereas only 174393 men voted on Sunday. A total of 18 third genders cast their votes. In terms of percentage of voter turnout, 73.79 percent was of women voters and 67.90 male voters came out from their houses to cast their votes in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Vishesh Sarangal said that the whole voting process was completed in a totally peaceful and hassle-free manner in Banga, Nawanshahr and Balachaur assembly segments and a total of 70.75 percent voters exercised their right to franchise.
He added that 73.77 percent voting was registered in Balachaur followed by 69.39 percent in Banga and 69.37 percent in Nawanshahr.
He said in Balachaur, 57392 female, 57050 male voters and six third genders had cast their votes and 62047 women, 60883 men electors and seven third genders voted in Nawanshahr. Sarangal added 58230 women, 56460 men and five third genders used their right to vote on Sunday in Banga legislative constituency.
Sarangal also expressed gratitude towards residents of the district for upholding the glorious tradition of exercising their franchise freely by calling their votes without any fear. He said that peaceful turn out by the voters for exercising their franchise reflects the enthusiasm of people for their right to vote.
Deputy Commissioner said that polling was largely peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident from any polling booth in three of the assembly constituencies.
