TRAINING IMPARTED TO FIELD OFFICERS INVOLVED IN ECONOMIC CENSUS AT DISTRICT LEVEL

Ludhiana, May 30, 2019: The work on 7th economic census of the Union government has started and this time. Common Service Centres (CSC) e-Governance Services India Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, would be the implementing agency for 7th Economic Census (EC) this time.

Like always, a state-level coordination committee would be formed at state level, while a similar district-level committee at district level. As per the directions of Central Statistical Organisation, New Delhi, Deputy Commissioner would be the Chairman of the district-level coordination committee, while Deputy Economic and Statistical Advisor would be the nodal officer of this committee and would fully assist the district managers of CSC.

This information was provided by Mr Charanjit Kumar, State Project Manager, CSC, Mr Surinder Kumar, Deputy Economic and Statistical Advisor Ludhiana and Mr Ravinder Kumar Sharma from National Sample Survey Organisation while imparting training to around 150 field officers of the 7th EC at Bachat Bhawan, here today. On this occasion, Mr Ram Singh, District Manager, CSC, Mr Manjinder Singh and Mr Ajit Singh were also present.

Mr Charanjit Kumar informed that the participants were trained on the key concepts and definitions, processes, digital platform and application to be used for the enumeration (data capture and supervision) in the field. He stated that during this 7th EC, all kinds of economic activities related to agriculture, non-agriculture etc would also be included.

He said that the 7th Economic Census -2019 is being conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) to provide disaggregated information on various operational and structural aspects of all establishments in the country. He said that the information gathered during the 7th EC would prove beneficial for planning of the minutest level.

He further informed that an IT based digital platform for data capture, validation, report generation and dissemination will be used in this Economic Census. The fieldwork for the 7th EC will commence in June 2019 and would be completed in three months time.

Six Economic Censuses (EC) have been conducted till date. The first Economic Census was undertaken in 1977. The Second EC was carried out in 1980 followed by the Third EC in 1990. The fourth edition took place in 1998 while the fifth EC was held in 2005. The Sixth edition of Economic Census was conducted in 2013.
