Workshop for students primary focus being on first year students
University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University in collaboration with Pushpanjali Trust, Chandigarh organised a three day workshop for the students primary focus being on the first year students.
Chandigarh November 16, 2022: University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University in collaboration with Pushpanjali Trust, Chandigarh organised a three day workshop for the students primary focus being on the first year students.
The event was organized under the aegis of Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University and Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Kaur, Director, UILS. The department, considering the importance of mental health and the widespread stigma, organized the workshop to train students and equip them with the basic knowledge about Mental Health. The keynote speakers of the event were Gurpreet Singh, Psychiatric Social worker and Anoop Inder Kaur, Clinical Psychologists from Pushpanjali Trust, Chandigarh.
During the course of the workshop, common mental health disorders and complex mental health disorders were discussed. In addition to this, the resource person discussed the two important legislation on Mental Health namely, Rights of Persons with Disability act, 2016 and Mental Healthcare Act, 2018. Anoop Inder Kaur aided students to equip them with self-help tips to deal with stress and anxiety.
The teacher coordinators for the event were Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Kaur and Gurjinder, whereas, the student convenors for the event were Vaishnavi Gaur, Sachin and Sanmeet Kaur. The students enjoyed the workshop throughout and were encouraged to take professional help. The Director said," the department is committed to make the environment of the department conducive for the students such that not only their academic but emotional well-being is ensured too." Further, the Department will soon appoint a counsellor for students and faculty such that help is readily and easily accessible.
