Workshop on fascination for foreign among youth of Punjab by  Centre for Diaspora Studies, Lyallpur Khalsa College

Jalandhar, October 28, 2021: To discuss and deliberate  the ongoing trend of migration in the region, The Centre for Diaspora Studies, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organized a one-day workshop on the theme ‘Youth of Punjab and Fascination for the Foreign: Challenges and Redressal’. The workshop was attended by more than a hundred students and members of the faculty. 
In his message, the worthy Principal of the college Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra appreciated the efforts of Dr. Kanchan Mehta, the co-ordinator of the Centre for Diaspora Studies in organizing such relevant activities for the youth and said, “Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar has always been the front-runner in letting the youth develop their potential in a rewarding career through its various programmes in academics, sports and in the fields of culture and personality development.” 
The workshop consisted of two sessions. Prof. Jasreen Kaur Dean Academics, Lyallpur Khalsa College chaired the workshop sessions. Dr. Vineet Mehta, Associate Professor in the Dept. of English, Doaba College, Jalandhar and Manoj Kumar Tripathi, Senior Correspondent, Dainik Jagran were the resource persons.Outlining the objectives of the workshop, Dr. Kanchan Mehta, the co-ordinator of the Centre for Diaspora Studies said "The focus of the workshop has been to sensitize the youth regarding the challenges that await them in the foreign lands and to let them explore the possibilities and opportunities in the land being left." 
In his thought-provoking address, Dr. Vineet Mehta,in the first session,drawing on literary theory and research in the field of diaspora studies underlined the causes behind the fasicnation for the foreign lands among the youth and discussed the issues of rootlessnes, alienation, identity crisis, hybrid identity and clash of cultures emerging out of migration.
In the second session, Manoj Kumar Tripathi drawing upon his actual experiences in the field exhorted the youth to get acquainted with the glorious history of Punjab and the nation at large, identify their inclinations, interests and talents and subsequently explore the possibilities and opportunities available in the native land to build a rewarding career for themselves. Both the sessions witnessed a robust interaction between the resource persons and the students. 
On the basis of their performance in the workshop, which was adjudged by Dr. Balraj Kaur and Dr. Manmeet Sodhi of the Dept. of English of the college, Harpreet Singh, Anjana, Bunny Sodhi and Jasnoor Kaur were felicitated with prizes. 
Thanking the resource persons for their valuable insights on the complex issue, participants for their active participation, Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Head of the Dept. of Economics, Prof. Arunjit Kaur, Head of the Dept. of Chemistry and Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu, Head of the Dept. of Commerce and Business Management, Prof. Jasreen Kaur,  said"This workshop will go a long way in sensitizing the youth that challenges are everywhere in life and it is always better to be well-prepared, focused and realistic."
