Workshop on improving welding quality and productivity
CICU organized a Workshop on Improving Welding Quality & Productivity at CICU Complex, Focal Point Ludhiana.
Ludhiana, February 19, 2023: CICU has been organizing various programs for the benefit of the industry and trade sectors of Punjab. Skill Up-gradation of the Industrial employees/workers is one of the key agenda under the “Make in India”, “Zero Defects and Zero Effect” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives by the Government & facilitated by Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings. CICU has recognized its responsibility in thisregards and organized a Workshop on Improving Welding Quality & Productivity at CICU Complex, Focal Point Ludhiana.
The objective of this workshop was to upgrade the welding skills, which will help participants in the field of Arc, Gas, Mig, Tig, and Flux Core Welding Fabrications etc. to improve the welding quality & productivity for achieving zero defect applications.
A participative and thought provoking program was conducted by Dr. Amandeep Singh Shahi, Ph.D. (IIT Delhi) Professor & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering (Specialist In Welding Technology) Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology, (SLIET-Deemd University), who is having more than 24 Years’ experience of teaching & research in the area of welding materials, metallurgy and activities involved in welding. He has published many research papers in international journals and he is also a reviewer of international journals.
Dr. Amandeep Singh Shahi explained in details the latest and different Welding Processes, including metallurgy of welded joints, Dos and Don’ts prior to, during and after welding and importance of weld quality, concepts of Preheating, Root Pass, Inter-Pass Temperature, Multi-Pass Welding, Post Weld Heat Treatment etc, Safe Welding Practices on the shop floor, for achieving better productivity & quality, Weld-ability issues of different materials used in different welded fabrications, reliability, dependable and sound welds. Familiarizations with Different types of weld joints & joint designs. Various Weld Defects, along with causes and remedial measures to overcome these defects. Residual stresses and distortion in welding-its causes, prevention and control. Mechanical evaluation of welded joints, Service Weld ability Test including different destructive tests. Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). Safety, Health and Environmental issues relating to good welding practices. Important tips regarding day-to-day shop floor problems and their solutions were also explained to them. At the end of the workshop there was a questions and answers session to clear doubts on the subject discussed in the workshop.
