Chandigarh, October 27, 2023: Under the aegis of RUSA, a one-day workshop on "Self and Communication: Philosophical and Pragmatic Concerns'' was held at the Center for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Panjab University, Chandigarh. 

The interventions and deliberations made by the academics and scholars sought to establish an equipoise between the philosophical and the pragmatic aspects of the self and communication and equip to the student participants with knowledge and skills leading to self-awareness, improved communication skills, and nurturing more meaningful connection in various fields and facets of their lives. The eminent resource-persons in the inaugural session included Padam Shri Shri Surjeet Patar; Amarjit Grewal, former director, PTU; Prof Rumina Sethi, Dean of Instructions, Panjab University, who spoke on such various issues as ‘exploration of the self through poetry’, ‘embedded and embodied character of self’ and ‘importance of dialogue for effective communication’, respectively. 

Prof Harsh Gandhar, Director, CDOE, welcomed the guests and speakers and introduced the theme, while Prof Yojna Rawat proposed a vote of thanks. In his valedictory address, Prof Akshay Kumar, Chairperson, Dept. of English, focused on the Politics of selfhood and on the subaltern concerns.

Prof Yograj Angrish, Dean Languages, PU graced the occasion as a guest of honor and Prof Pushpinder Sayal spoke as a chief-guest. In various technical sessions, Prof I D Gaur, Dr Manmohan, Prof Gurpal Sandhu, Prof Pratibha Nagpal, Prof Sarabjit, Prof Gurmeet, Prof Deepti Gupta, Dr Sanjeev Gupta, Dr Meenu Gupta, Dr Pankaj Srivastava also shared their thoughts on the theme with the students.

The workshop was attended by around 170 students from various streams as commerce, management, social sciences and languages. Dr Parveen Kumar and Dr Ravinder Dhaliwal were the coordinators and Dr Harmail Sigh was co-coordinator of the workshop.
