Chandigarh, September 23, 2024: As part of the ongoing 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah celebrations, the Department of Foods and Nutrition at Government Home Science College, Chandigarh organized an insightful workshop on Waste Management and Recycling. 

The session, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, featured eminent speaker Gautam Sharma, Founder of Surya – Let’s Recycle, an Integrated Waste Management Solutions and Industrial Fuels Supplier, authorized by the Pollution Control Board and FSSAI. Gautam Sharma, a well-known advocate for waste management, shed light on the pressing need to manage various types of waste, including kitchen waste, plastic waste, and e-waste. He discussed innovative recycling solutions and practical ways to reduce the environmental impact of waste through sustainable practices. He emphasized the importance of incorporating effective waste management techniques in everyday operations, particularly in large-scale food service settings like college canteens and mess halls.

The workshop was attended by a diverse target group, including mess workers, canteen workers, and both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, participants gained a deeper understanding of how they can contribute to a greener environment by managing waste efficiently. 
Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, applauded the initiative and emphasized the critical role of sustainability in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. She encouraged all attendees to implement the knowledge gained in their daily routines and institutional practices.
