Workshop on waste segregation and up-cycling for entrepreneurship
KMV organises workshop in collaboration with Municipal Corporation Jalandhar for more than 75 Safai Sahayaks on Waste Segregation and Up-Cycling for Entrepreneurship
Jalandhar, March 21, 2024: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) conducted a workshop on the topic Waste Segregation and Up-Cycling for Entrepreneurship. The workshop was organised under a research project granted by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to the faculty members Dr Pardeep Arora and Dr Harpreet Kaur of KMV on the topic Developing Low Cost Teaching Aids in Promoting Sustainable Waste Management.
Chander Mohan, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal was the chief guest for the occasion. Puneet Sharma, Joint Commissioner-cum- Zonal Commissioner (Cantt.), Jalandhar was the guest of honour for the occasion on the first day of the workshop.
Dr. (Prof.) Girish Sapra, Founder & Managing Director, Greenbrigade Private Limited – Environment and Waste Management expert acted as a resource person in this workshop.
Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi during her address welcomed all the guests and made them aware of the need and importance of sustainable waste management and Up-cycling as entrepreneurship. Along with this, she also applauded the commendable efforts of safai sahayaks and talked about the importance of waste segregation and how it can be useful as a source of income. It is pertinent to mention that more than 75 safai sahayaks participated in this workshop with full zeal and enthusiasm.
Chander Mohan in his address stressed upon the fact that each and every citizen of our country should contribute towards the environment conservation. He also said that KMV has been commencing various initiatives in order to make the people aware about their responsibility towards the environment.
Puneet Sharma during his address appreciated the work of safai sahayaks and said that maximum support will be provided to KMV for their work and also appreciated the initiatives taken by KMV for spreading the awareness about environment conservation and said that KMV has been working very efficiently in collaboration with Municipal Corporation for various causes.
Dr Girish held an interactive session with the officials from Municipal Corporation and discussed their various problems and also offered solutions to them. Dr Pardeep Arora, Project PI discussed the various possibilities that arise from utilising both wet waste and dry waste & emphasised the potential for creating useful products and materials from these types of waste.
Dr. Harpreet Kaur Co-PI in her discussion shed light on the potential of transforming waste material into valuable resources through innovative business models by emphasising upon the importance of sustainability and circular economy.
Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Pardeep Arora, Principal Investigator and Dr Harpreet Kaur, Co-investigator and the whole organising committee for successfully organising the workshop.
