World Alzhemer’s day celebrated

Ludhiana, September 23, 2012: M.Sc. Nursing 1st year students of College of Nursing has organised an exhibition the theme “Dementia: living together” on the World Alzheimer’s Day in Medical OPD, CMC, Ludhiana.

Principal Prof. Ponnamma R. Singh welcomed and introduced the Chief Guest Dr. Vijay Obed, Deputy Director, and guest speaker Dr. Arvind Sharma Psychiatrist CMC and Hospital, Ludhiana.

Dr. Vijay Obed addressed the audience and explained the patients and their relatives about the illness. Prof Triza Jiwan HoD of the Psychiatric Nursing department introduced the theme to the audience. She said it is estimated that 10% of the adults are affected with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 60+ and few of the cases are from the age of 30-45 years of age. Every year 3,50,000 new cases are identified. She explained about the symptoms of the Alzheimer’s disease and also emphasised on the family support and care.

Dr. Arvind Sharma, Psychiatrist, CMC and Hospital addressed the audience and explained the patients and their relatives about the early identification of the disease and prevention of the progression of the disease process. He explained the patients and their relatives about the possible treatment of the Alzheimer’s disease.

The students of B.Sc. Nsg 3rd year also presented a role play on the theme.

There was a poster exhibition on the Alzheimer’s disease which was inaugurated by Dr. Vijay Obed. 

The students of M.Sc. Nursing 1st year explained the posters to the about 180 patients and their relatives.

The patients and the relatives showed an active response towards this exhibition.
