World Arthritis Day: Over 200 take part in `Cyclothon' in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, October 12, 2021: Over 200 people participated in a ‘Cyclothon’ at Sukhna Lake to mark World Arthritis Day on Tuesday morning, which was organized by Ivy Hospital, Mohali in association with Chandigarh Traffic Police and Cycleworx.
The ‘Cyclothon’ was flagged-off by Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh Saluja, director and head of orthopaedics and joint replacement surgery at Ivy.
Speaking during the occasion Dr. Bhanu said that cycling is a low-impact exercise that limits stress on weight-bearing joints, like your hips, knees and feet. In addition, the movement helps lubricate the joints, which reduces pain and stiffness. arthritis is an inevitable part of ageing for a majority of people and with growing age. Eating sensibly, controlling weight and exercising regularly are the mantras for keeping knee problems at bay, he opined.
Healthy joints give you pain free mobility and lifestyle. You feel fit to do all your activities like squatting, running, climbing stairs and sitting cross legs, he said.
Cycling increases your Bone metabolism and capacity to retain calcium and Vitamin D3 in the body, maintains your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and enhances the body's immune mechanism, he maintained.
Lalit Sharma, GM- Sales and Marketing , Ivy said that under CSR, we keep doing health awareness programs regularly and today ‘Cyclothon’ was our another effort to spread awareness on arthritis and the importance of cycling in keeping our joints healthy .
