World Blood Cancer Day on theme “Close the Care Gap” at Christian Medical College and Hospital
Every year, 28th of May is recognized worldwide as Blood Cancer Day.
Ludhiana, May 28, 2022: Every year, 28th of May is recognized worldwide as Blood Cancer Day. To support the cause, Christian Medical College Ludhiana, organised an awareness program at the General OPD area. The event started with thanking and praising God Almighty.
Dr. Jaineet Sachdeva, Professor, and Head, of Radiation Oncology, was the Event’s Chief Guest. She briefed the audience on the importance of this day. She advised that every 35 seconds someone in the world is diagnosed with Blood cancer. She gave a brief about different types of blood cancers and the treatment options available, laying emphasis on timely treatment for better chances of survival.
Sister Gladis S Kumar, Nursing Superintendent, mentioned the importance of being aware of blood cancer and reaching the right place like CMC Hospital for correct diagnosis and reliable treatment through the best Doctors. She mentioned that the Hematology doctors are available in both private and general opd on Monday, Thursday, and Tuesday, Friday respectively.
Dr. M Joseph John, Professor and Head of the Department of Clinical Hematology and Bone Marrow Stem Cell transplant, talked to the audience mentioning that a lot of progress has been made in the treatment of cancers and the treatment available here is ‘on par’ with the western world. He elaborated on various hurdles faced by our society to get a correct and timely diagnosis. He also advised that after the diagnosis, CMC Ludhiana can help in partially defraying expenses for cancer treatment through government and non-government funding.
Dr. Ashwin Philips, Assistant Professor, and Head, Department of Medical Oncology, addressed some common myths/doubts surrounding cancers. He mentioned that most cancers are treatable with the best-in-class diagnosis, medicines, and treatment options available at CMC Ludhiana.
The staff of the Department Clinical Hematology performed a play/ skit depicting a family’s journey/ordeal to get a diagnosis and treatment for their child’s blood cancer and extended the message on how a correct and timely diagnosis can save a life.
A brief on funding was given by the Department of Clinical hematology’s social worker who mentioned that underprivileged and uninsured cancer patients have the option to avail various cancer funds through government and non-government agencies.
