World Environment Day-CJM initiates month long plantation drive at central jail
1000 Saplings to be planted in the drive
Ludhiana: To observe the world environment day in a big way, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum- District Legal Services Authority Secretary PS Kaleka on Saturday started a plantation drive at central jail complex, Tajpur road.
Initiating the drive, the Chief Judicial Magistrate underscored the need for planting more and more trees to enhance the green cover in the district.
He added that this plantation drive is the best gift we can give to the nature and befitting tribute to our great Gurus.
He said that as many as 1000 saplings would be planted in this month here and would be maintained properly by the inmates and undertrials under the supervision of jail and forest officials.
He called upon the people to plant trees for the sake of future generation and said that it is high time for the people to come forward to plant more saplings and upkeep them properly to enhance the green cover in the district.
He added that it is the duty of each person to protect the environment for giving a better future to the next generations by planting saplings.
Kaleka also said that special attention will be laid on the upkeep of these plants.
He said that trees play a crucial role by conserving natural resources and improving the environment.
He exhorted the officers and employees of the government departments that each one of them must plant maximum saplings to enhance green cover in the district besides would help to reduce environmental pollution on the other.
He said that such drives were all the more important as the depleting green cover was a cause of concern for everybody as it poses a serious hazard to the environment and human health.
