‘World Hand Hygiene Week’ observed

Department of Microbiology and Hospital infection Control Committee, DMC&H in collaboration with Hospital Infection Society India, celebrated “World Hand Hygiene Day” by organising several activities from May 1-4.

Ludhiana, May 4, 2024: Department of Microbiology and Hospital infection Control Committee, DMC&H in collaboration with Hospital Infection Society India, celebrated “World Hand Hygiene Day” by organising several activities from May 1-4. 

The theme of World hand hygiene day for the year 2024 is “Promoting knowledge and capacity building of health care workers through innovative and impactful training and education, on infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene”.

The activities for MBBS batch 2022 students included role play, quiz, and poster making and a sensitization session was conducted for PG/UG students and nursing staff of DMC&H by Dr. Veenu Gupta, Prof. & Head and faculty members of  Microbiology. Dr. Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics, along with the faculty, encouraged the students and gave certificates to the winners. Dr. Sarit Sharma, Infection Control Officer and  HICC members visited different clinical areas of the hospital to check hand hygiene compliance among health care workers.

Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society appreciated the efforts of Department of Microbiology and Hospital infection Control Committee for raising awareness among the staff.

In his message, Dr. GS Wander, Principal, told that proper hand hygiene can break the chain of infection, control the spread of infections in healthcare facilities and communities, prevent about 30% of diarrheal infections and about 20% of respiratory infections.

In addition, Dr Veenu Gupta, also conducted an awareness session on Infection control practices for the staff of ESIC Model Hospital, Ludhiana. Dr. Ashwani Chaudhary, Chairperson, HICC, highlighted that every health care worker should follow 5 moments & 6 steps of hand hygiene given by WHO.
