World Kidney Day observed at DMC&H

On the occasion of World Kidney Day, the Department of Nephrology, Urology and Renal Transplant Unit at DMC&H held an awareness event to promote kidney health with this year’s theme “Are Your Kidneys, OK? Detect early, protect kidney health”.

Ludhiana, March 13, 2025: On the occasion of World Kidney Day, the Department of Nephrology, Urology and Renal Transplant Unit at DMC&H held an awareness event to promote kidney health with this year’s theme “Are Your Kidneys, OK? Detect early, protect kidney health”. 

The event emphasized the significance of early detection and adherence to the 8 Golden Rules for Healthy Kidneys, which include maintaining an active lifestyle, controlling blood sugar and blood pressure and avoiding the overuse of over-the-counter painkillers.

To raise awareness, T-shirts printed with kidney awareness slogan were distributed to the patients as part of the initiative.

In his message, Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society said that we have an excellent team of specialists in Nephrology,Urology & Kidney transplant. He reassured the public that DMC&H is fully equipped to address all types of kidney-related ailments at every stage of treatment.  

Gupta interacted with the patients during the event and met with a patient who has been undergoing dialysis at DMC&H for the past 21 years.  She shared her heartfelt views and gratitude. She praised the entire team of DMC&H for their tireless efforts and compassionate care.

Notably, there are three more patients who have been receiving dialysis treatment at Department of Nephrology, DMC&H, and associated with us from an impressive 15 to 20 years.

Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal DMC&H also highlighted the importance of kidney health and said that kidney disease is often linked with other ailments, including cardiovascular issues. By promoting kidney health, we are simultaneously encouraging heart health and overall wellness. DMC&H remains at the forefront of offering comprehensive healthcare services to ensure better outcomes for our patients.

Dr. Vikas Makkar, Professor & Head Department of Nephrology, said, the growing burden of kidney disease can be controlled through awareness and early action. Regular check-ups and adherence to a healthy lifestyle is the key to preserve kidney health.

Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Professor & Head Department of Urology, said that Kidney health is integral to overall well-being. Early intervention improves the quality of life for patients. Our collective goal is to ensure that people understand the importance of preventive measures.
