World Stroke Week being observed at Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana.
Ludhiana, October 29, 2015: World Stroke Day was celebrated at Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana on Thursday. A week long activities for stroke awareness culminated with the final event in the hospital auditorium. More than 60 patients & their families gathered at the event. The participants were addressed by Mr.Vivan Singh Gill, Facility Director.
Dr.Alok Jain, Consultant Neurophysician, discussed about various risk factors for stroke and measures to prevent stroke in daily life. He stressed upon increased chance of recurrent stroke in patients who have had stroke previously also increased risk in women and patients with poorly controlled diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases or obesity.
Dr. Vishnu Gupta, Neuro-Interventionist & Senior Neurosurgeon discussed about latest advances in stroke management including thrombolysis(clot breaking drugs)& endovascular therapy( clot retrieving devices).
Dr. Harpreet Brar, Head Administration informed that Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana has started an advanced stroke care centre with all the latest treatment modalities.
Dr. Ajay Pal Singh Sandhu, Senior Consultant, Psychiatry Department discussed about the importance of first few golden hours in treatment of brain attack, in which thrombolysis can be done. Dr. Som Gupta, Head Physiotherapy discussed about stroke rehabilitation & motivated the patients to continue with regular exercises to regain independence in daily activities.
Last but not the least, Dr. Ankush Mehta informed about the stroke awareness campaign carried out by the hospital over the last week in surrounding schools, colleges & senior citizen forum.
Also present on the occasion were Dr. J.S Sekhon Director Oncology Department, Dr. Navdeep Khera, Head Nephrology Deptt., Dr. Sanjeev Mahajan, Dr.Amit Gupta, Dr. Parshant Puri.
