World Telecommunication and Information society Day celebrated


Ludhiana, May 18, 2017: The Institution of Engineers, Ludhiana Local centre celebrated the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day today. The theme for the day was Big Data for Big Impact.
The chief guest for the occasion was Sh.Vikas Sachdeva, sales head, Idea Cellular Ltd., Ludhiana. He was welcomed by the members of the institution.
In his welcome address, Er. Gurpreet Singh Walia, Honorary secretary, IE(I), Ludhiana apprised the audience about the various activities being taken up the Ludhiana Local centre.
The expert speaker for the day was Dr.Ajay Shiv Sharma, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana. He built the subject from scratch highlighting what is big data and how is it affecting our daily lives. He cited several examples and enlightened the audience about the transfer mechanism and segregation of data. Giving tips about how data was being used from our Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter logins, our bank transactions etc. and how the companies could find the target customers. In his address, Chairman of Ludhiana Local centre Brig. Mastinder Singh, SM highlighted the 3Vs for data handling. He cautioned the listeners about the technology wave and how one could safeguard himself.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Er. Arvind Dhingra brought forth the importance of big data in all fields of life including agriculture, education, banking.
Over 40 members of the institution from various bodies like Ludhiana Municipal corporation, PSPCL, GNDEC attended the function.
The function concluded with recitation of national anthem.
