World Tourism Day 2022: Sony SAB’s Alibaba - Sheezan Khan shares his travel stories

As somebody rightly said, “We travel not to escape life but for life not to escape us.” World Tourism Day is around the corner, and everyone is setting their travel goals adding to their bucket list. It's not only us who are taking the much-needed break, our favorite actors too are having their own fun time at beautiful destinations. Sheezan Khan, who has left his fans in awe with his performance in Sony SAB’s new show Alibaba Dastaan-e-Kabul spoke in length about his exciting and fun travel to Manali, work related travel to Ladakh and his future travel plans.

Below are the excerpts from our chat with him.

Which place did you visit before the pandemic? Any fun moments you would like to share with us?
Although I am a beach person, I took a trip to the beautiful mountains of Manali. After my last show was wrapped up, me and my friends decided that we should finally take a trip. We instantly chose Manali as our destination and by far it has been our best trip as we really had a great time over there. Since this was my first proper break in 3 years, I enjoyed the trip to the fullest and visited as many tourist spots as I could. For the very first time I witnessed snow and played on the snow mountain like a little kid. Me and my friends also rode bikes on the beautiful mountains of Manali. It almost felt like I’m living the movie ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’! On this trip one very funny incident took place with all of us. To give you a little background, when you are in a snowy region, to walk properly one needs to wear those snow boots made of rubber which works very well on ice. The minute you step on a normal floor you’ll fall down like humpty-dumpty. So when two of my friends and I went to use the washroom, we didn’t realize for a minute that we were no longer standing. All three of us were down on the floor figuring out our way to stand up. Although we were feeling disgusted, it was a very funny moment for us. After we finally stood up, we thought for a very long time if we should take a bath or not because we only had access to cold water. Throughout the trip, we’ve taken long walks in freezing cold temperatures, relished good food and done all sorts of things that we had missed when we were working.  So there are these small moments that I still cherish and are forever in my heart.

Any place you traveled recently?
I had a chance to visit Ladakh for the shoot of my show Alibaba Dastaan-e-Kabul. Even though it was more about work, shooting in a scenic location was mesmerizing. Ladakh was not on my bucket list, but my sister wished to visit this place and she enjoyed her soul out. While I was shooting, my sister went river rafting with the Indian army. After a while we spent quality time together. For me, the best memory from the Ladakh trip has to be the star gazing. I’ve seen 12-15 falling stars. It was the best feeling ever! I believe zindagi mei aap jahan enjoy karna chahte ho waha kar sakte ho and I’ve done it.

Which place/places are on your list? Are you planning to travel there any time soon?
Currently I’m not planning a trip very soon. But as I said, I’m a beach person and I'm really hoping to take a trip to either Tulum, Mexico because it's best known for its music, DJ nights and live music and I really want to enjoy that. Or I would like to visit Neil island in Andaman Nicobar. I want to witness the world famous evening and enjoy the sundowner there.

In between your busy schedule, where do you head to for a breather?
There is a place 2-3 hours away from Mumbai, called Kashid beach. I prefer going to that beach because I love peaceful places and Kashid beach is empty with its beautiful white colour sand. I always thought only Goa had beautiful places, but I was wrong. Kashid is unexplored and has everything. A lot of people don’t know about the place, but I’m sure they’ll love it.

The vibrancy of the country and the picture-perfect beaches is something I absolutely fell in love with. Thailand is a complete food paradise for people who love to explore the regional authentic flavours of Thai.
