Winds rage across Monsoon Regatta
Hyderabad, July 12, 2022: The Monsoon winds and rain raged across the Hussain Sagar and the young sailors were challenged by winds from 14 to 22 knots on the day one of the 13th edition of the Monsoon Regatta, one of the competitive ranking nationals for the under-15 sub-junior fleet, conducted by the YAI and Telangana Sailing Association, at the Hussain Sagar Lake, from Tuesday.
Not too many sailors were used to these conditions and many retired or capsized leaving the racing only to the most experienced
As expected, Ekalavya Batham of NSS Bhopal and his compatriot Shashank Batham took top honors amongst the boys and both tied at the top with 3 points each.
For the girls it was a tight tossup between local girl from Rasoolpura Tanuja Kameshwar and Divyanshi Mishra of Bhopal. Tanuja was leading the 3rd race at one point and then dropped badly to 8th spot leaving the lead by just one point to Divayanshi.
The Monsoon Regatta is one of the most competitive Ranking Nationals which began today at Hussain Sagar Hyderabad.
The weather was just rain and more rain across the day and the colourful under 18 Laser fleet launched for the afternoon session with a tightly competitive fleet of 16 boats. The winds hit 22 knots again in the afternoon and the Beginners Green fleet were not allowed to launch given the treacherous conditions.
The Target is to complete 12 grueling races which seem to be one of the toughest the sailors have experienced, many who are Internationals
