YONEX-SUNRISE - Anant Bajaj Memorial All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2023 concludes at Hyderabad
Jayesh Ranjan, Pullela Gopichand H.S.Prannoy and Chirag Shetty, graced the finals and valedictory ceremony
Hyderabad, July 10, 2023: The fourth ‘Yonex Sunrise Anant Bajaj Memorial - All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2023 (Men & Women)’ concluded with much fanfare at Sai Gopichand Badminton Academy, Hyderabad. The 7-day tournament hosted from 3rd to 9th July 2023 , with the finals on the last day, saw participation from 1,600+ players from across the country who enthusiastically represented their states to compete under various categories - men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. After the nail-biting finals match, the winners were awarded with trophies and cash prizes at the valedictory ceremony.
The Chief Guest was Shri.Jayesh Ranjan, IAS and the Guests of Honor were Shri. Pullela Gopichand, Chief Coach - Indian Badminton Team, Shri. H.S.Pronoy, Badminton Ranking World No.8 in Men Singles, Shri. Chirag Shetty, Badminton Ranking World No.3 in Men Doubles and Ms Pooja Bajaj – Director, Bajaj Electricals Limited.
The prestigious tournament is hosted annually by the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy which is known to have trained several legendary badminton players, such as Saina Nehwal, P.V Sindhu, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. In addition to this, the Guests of Honour officially unveiled the Anant Bajaj Badminton Hall. All these initiatives are in memory of the late Mr Anant Bajaj (past Managing Director of Bajaj Electricals Limited) who was a sports enthusiast; and aimed at promoting upcoming talent across the nation.
Speaking on occasion, Pooja Bajaj – Director, Bajaj Electricals Limited, said, “This tournament was a celebration of passion, dedication, and the unyielding spirit of young athletes in our country. We firmly believe that supporting and fostering talent at a grassroots level is crucial for the development of any sport and for the holistic growth of our society. Throughout the tournament, we witnessed extraordinary performances from these budding badminton talents. Their skills, determination, and unwavering commitment to the sport were truly inspiring. With this initiative, we hope to keep Anant’s legacy and the spirit of sportsmanship alive. Anant always wanted to provide a platform to budding players so that more Indian players reach the international stage. With such tournaments and the support of Pullela Gopichand academy, we continue to live Anant’s dream.”
