Youngsters fall prey to heart diseases now: Dr HK Bali
As many as 300 people including doctors and para medical staff of LIVASA Hospital, Mohali and senior citizens from Senior Citizens Association Chandigarh and Mohali along with members of RWA Association Sec 71 Mohali and students from CGC Landra participated in a mega walkathon to mark World Heart Day here on Saturday.
Mohali, September 28, 2024: As many as 300 people including doctors and para medical staff of LIVASA Hospital, Mohali and senior citizens from Senior Citizens Association Chandigarh and Mohali along with members of RWA Association Sec 71 Mohali and students from CGC Landra participated in a mega walkathon to mark World Heart Day here on Saturday.
The walkathon was jointly flagged-off by Dr HK Bali chairman cardiac sciences, Dr Rakesh Sharam associate director cardiology, Dr Ruchir Rastogi senior consultant Cardiology and SC Aggarwal, President Chandigarh Senior Citizen Association.

Speaking during the occasion, Dr HK Bali said that In India, out of the estimated population of more than 1.44 billion dispersed across various geographical regions, about 30 million people suffer from coronary artery disease. India will soon have the highest number of cases of cardiovascular disease in the world. Also 27 % of deaths in India are caused by cardiovascular diseases.
On the Rising trend of heart diseases in young Indians, Dr Bali said that India tops the world in heart attacks among 35 plus men & cardiovascular diseases would be the largest cause of death and disability in India by next decade.
“The average age of people with heart ailments is coming down and these days we are getting patients as young as 25 years with heart attacks. Few years back Children used to bring their parents to the doctor for heart related issues. Now it is not uncommon to see parents bringing their Children in the 30s and 40s to doctor for Heart Related issues. Now a greater number of young Indians are suffering from coronary artery disease, owing to their poor lifestyle, and if this continues the future looks even more dangerous.”
Dr Rakesh Sharma said, “In India, heart ailments have replaced communicable diseases as the biggest killer. According to recent data, approximately 30 percent of the urban population and 15 percent of the population living in rural areas suffer from high blood pressure and heart attacks. As the risk factors of heart ailments increase, so does the mortality rate. He also said that Primary Angioplasty remains Gold Standard Treatment for heart attack.
On this occasion, Dr H K Bali said that 4.77 million Indians die due to heart disease every year, as such we need to make a conscious effort to sensitize people about these diseases, the right course of treatment and preventive measures that will help them deal with cardiac problems.
