Youth Lead The Way: PAU KVK Bathinda organises mobilisation camp on crop residue management
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bathinda, organized an engaging mobilization camp on crop residue management techniques at Government Senior Secondary School, Pathrala on November 20, 2024. The event, held under the Central Government’s project Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for In-Situ Management of Crop Residue in the States of Punjab (Phase II), saw active participation from 158 students and 23 teachers.
Ludhiana, November 20, 2024: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bathinda, organized an engaging mobilization camp on crop residue management techniques at Government Senior Secondary School, Pathrala on November 20, 2024. The event, held under the Central Government’s project Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for In-Situ Management of Crop Residue in the States of Punjab (Phase II), saw active participation from 158 students and 23 teachers.
Dr. Ajitpal Singh Dhaliwal, Professor (Animal Science) at KVK Bathinda, discussed the critical role of KVK in promoting sustainable agricultural practices. He highlighted various activities conducted by KVK on paddy residue management and explained how the residue can be effectively utilized in animal husbandry to enhance farm efficiency and reduce waste.
Dr. Vinay Pathania, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) KVK Bathinda, spoke about the detrimental effects of paddy residue burning, focusing on its impact on soil fertility, air pollution, and human health. He emphasized the need for adopting innovative practices, such as in-situ residue management, to mitigate these effects and improve agricultural sustainability.
Students participated enthusiastically in painting and essay-writing competitions on the theme of crop residue management, showcasing their creativity and understanding of the topic. A compelling skit play performed by the students underscored the urgency of adopting sustainable practices, leaving a lasting impact on the audience. Winners of the competitions were awarded prizes to recognize their efforts and encourage further engagement.
The program concluded with a rally through the village, where students, teachers, and KVK staff collectively motivated local residents to avoid stubble burning and adopt eco-friendly residue management practices.
The mobilization camp served as a platform to educate and inspire the next generation and local community members about the importance of sustainable farming. The KVK team thanked the school administration and participants for their cooperation and enthusiasm in making the event a resounding success.
