'Yudh Nashian Virudh': 95 kg heroin, 52 kg opium, and more than ₹64 lakh Drug Money recovered

Chandigarh/Moga, March 18, 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab leader and cabinet minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh highlighted the success of the Punjab government’s anti-drug campaign 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' and shared the details of police action up to March 16 with the media.

On Tuesday, Minister Tarunpreet Sondh addressed a press conference related to this campaign in Moga. The minister stated that the results of the 'War Against Drugs' campaign are extremely encouraging, and positive outcomes are being seen everywhere.

He mentioned that this campaign is being conducted very successfully across Punjab. So far, 95 kg of heroin, more than 52 kg of opium, and over ₹64 lakh in cash have been recovered. Additionally, 1651 FIRs have been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), and 2575 drug traffickers have been arrested.

Apart from this, approximately 7.25 lakh intoxicating pills, 1128 kg poppy husk, 17 kg cannabis, 4.5 kg charas, 1.25 kg of ice, about 500 bottles of illicit liquor, 6.25 kg of intoxicating powder, and 279 injections have also been seized by the police. Numerous buildings linked to drug traffickers have been demolished.

Additionally, 22 motorcycles, 8 mobile phones, and 4 cars linked to drug trafficking have been confiscated. During the operation, over 4 kg of gold, including a necklace and a chain, and 1.25 kg of silver have also been recovered.

The minister stated that the AAP government is fully committed to eradicating drugs from Punjab. The police are working around the clock to take action against drug traffickers. He emphasized that no one associated with drugs will be spared this time. He warned drug traffickers to either leave Punjab or stop their trade.

Sondh shared that along with action against drug traffickers, the government is taking several other significant steps. Over a thousand meetings have been organized in universities and colleges to increase awareness among people. Similar programs are being conducted in villages as well.

He appealed to the public to support the government’s campaign and urged them to provide information about people associated with drugs and to admit drug-addicted individuals to de-addiction centers as soon as possible. He assured that these centers are fully equipped to help people quit drugs and return to a normal life.
